An actor’s life is not an easy one. Days are long. Nights are even longer. The pay is small even when there is money to be made. But for a collection of South Sound thespians, life would be empty without it. These are their stories: John Munn John Munn is sort of

The Black Front Gallery’s latest find is Portland artist Troy Briggs. He offers a group of six large ink and acrylic drawings of strange humoresque figures that relate to certain mythological creatures such as the Greek Minotaur and the Egyptian god Thoth, but their implied stories spring from Briggs’ fertile

Music and Murals, a new event this year in People’s Park, saw a broad spectrum of attendees and was blessed with a bright blue sky and warm weather. Kids ran through the crowd with their faces painted like wild animals or adorned with butterflies, laughing, screaming and generally carrying on

Your very own Carmen Jones is usually such a happy girl, hopping around the city discovering all kinds of adventures, but over the weekend I received some news that really slowed me down, and hit me hard. Lefty, one of my favorite dogs in the universe, had to be put down

A couple of years ago when I was regularly hanging at the Dock Street Landing Bar & Grill, the crowd got a little too ghetto for my personal taste, and I found other haunts to visit. But lately I’ve discovered that we need to add it back to our list

She goes around with a big black bag, asking businesses for bubble wrap. This strange habit has actually gained her Web site design services, though at times it also gains her odd looks. Diane Kurzyna doesn’t use this bubble wrap for her own shipping. She uses the addictive-to-pop plastic to stuff “babies”

In its third year, Saturday’s Community Kid’s Day at Lakewold Gardens is geared toward preschool and grade school-age children and their parents. Becky Roger from Lakewold Gardens’ Program Services says the word is about the fun, educational annual event at this historical 10-acre garden estate. Now the kids probably aren’t

THE 11TH HOUR: A dire warning about the demise of planet Earth, presented in a deadening format of talking heads and what often looks like stock nature footage. The doc has a lot of valuable information, but fails to convey it in an effective, involving way. Rent Al Gore’s “An

I don’t need a lot of research to be confident in stating that never before have I seen a movie open with the hero delivering a baby during a gun battle, severing the umbilical cord with a gunshot, and then killing a villain by penetrating his brain with a raw

James Mangold’s “3:10 to Yuma” restores the wounded heart of the Western and rescues it from the morass of pointless violence. The Western in its glory days was often a morality play, a story about humanist values penetrating the lawless anarchy of the frontier. It still follows that tradition in

If Bobble Tiki remembers correctly, and considering the amount of boxed wine that pumps through his body on a daily basis there’s at least a decent chance he doesn’t, the first time Bobble Tiki experienced a Jazzbones “Songwriters in the Round” show, Jeff Angell performed (with a few other talented

If you’ve been up early enough in the morning — something I absolutely don’t recommend unless you’re still up from the night before — then you’ve seen it and perhaps even felt it. Summer’s done for, bubba. Better brace yourself for fall. Fall, mainly for pigskin reasons, is my favorite

My friend Billy, a Puyallup resident, recently referred to his home town affectionately as “The Poo.” “Life is good in the Poo,” he said. I’ll never be able to think of Puyallup in the same way again. In 1982, The Puyallup Fair was a lot like it is now. It’s

Now his collection of original arcade-style video games
