Sundays: Sermon

Hell's Kitchen

By Volcano Staff on February 23, 2011

In 1979, Goth finally left its connotations of death and decay when classically educated windbag and Factory Records founder Tony Wilson described the bleak post-punk prophecies of Joy Division as "gothic." Unfortunately, this proved a double-edged sword, as the tag was then applied to the disgraceful sonic drivel of everyone from Clan of Xymox to Korn.

Every Sunday around 10 p.m. DJ DefCon1 spins danceable dark-tech and gothic-industrial sounds, as well as folks such as Depeche Mode, The Birthday Party, Bauhaus, Ministry and ilk, at Hell's Kitchen's "industrial/goth" dance night, "Sermon."
