For most of us, it feels like winter has overstayed its welcome. The snow-covered ground was beautiful for a minute, but we are eagerly awaiting the warmer days of spring and summer. It is so close we can practically taste it. We know that the spring and summer months bring outdoor fun, outdoor adventures, and delicious food and drink. Every year, the Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) center hosts a variety of fun-filled activities that the whole family will enjoy. 

April 1-5

Spring Break Fun & Games Week
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

McChord Library is hosting a whole week of fun for children on Spring Break. Some of the daily activities will include Fun with Keva Blocks, Playstation 4 VR, and a movie with popcorn. There will also be board games and video games in the teen area. For more information, call 253.982.3454.

April 4

Kid's Fest
1-4:30 p.m.

This free event kicks off the Month of the Military Child. The "Barnyard Play" themed event will be hosted in an MWR Fest Tent and the Bowl Arena Lanes at Lewis Main. The event will feature crafts, interactive games, farm animals, hands-on activities, climbing and free bowling. 2200 Liggett Ave.

April 6

JBLM 5K Awareness Run 2019
10 a.m.

This event is designed to encourage the JBLM community to participate in an enjoyable and safe activity while bringing awareness and education about the prevention of sexual assault, domestic violence and suicide. The first 1,000 participants will receive a T-shirt and custom finisher's medal. There will be a DJ, informational booths and giveaways the day of the event. April 13

Armed Forces Kid's Run
9 a.m.

This kid-friendly event is open for children between the ages of 4 and 16. Register by March 31 to receive a T-shirt. The event is free and registration can be found at: JBLMcys.com. The Armed Forces Kid's Run takes place at Cowan Stadium. For more information, call 253.967.2405.

April 20

Easter Dash
Noon-4 p.m.

This event is open to everyone at JBLM and children between the ages of 18 months to 11 years old. The annual Easter Dash will feature a free Easter egg hunt and a visit from the Easter Bunny. Children with special needs will begin their Easter egg hunt at noon. The event will be held at Cowan Stadium. For more information, call 253.967.5636. 2170 Bitar Ave.

April 21

Easter Brunch
10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.

This delicious Easter brunch at McChord Club will feature all your favorite mouth-watering breakfast foods. It will also include roast beef, glazed ham, roasted potatoes, glazed carrots, chilled shrimp and smoked salmon. There will also be plenty of fresh fruit, various salads and delectable desserts. Children ages 3 and younger eat free, children ages 4-12, $14.95, and those who are 13 years of age and older, $28.95. Reservations are required, 253.982.5581. JBLM-McChord Field, 700 Barnes Blvd. 

April 27

Spring Flea Market
9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

One person's trash is another one's treasure. The annual event will be held in the MWR Fest Tent. You can reserve your spot with two tables for $26. The cost to come to the flea market is free. For more info, call 253.967.6772.

May 4

Pitch, Hit, and Run Event
1-3 p.m.

Children 7-14 years old are encouraged to come out and showcase their baseball skills during Major League Baseball's Annual Pitch, Hit, and Run Event. Winners will advance to the sectional and championship competitions and have the opportunity to work their way up to the National Finals that will be held at the 2019 MLB All-Star Game. May 11

2019 Down and Dirty Mud Run
11 a.m.

This annual event promises three miles of mud, waterholes, dirt walls, low crawls and signature obstacles. Register by April 28 to guarantee an event T-shirt. Participants will also receive a Finisher's Medal and Collector's Race Bracelet. The event takes place at Soldiers Field House. For more information, visit: JBLM.armymwr.com2nd Division Dr.

May 18

Armed Forces Day
11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

This family-friendly event held at both Cowan and Memorial Stadiums will feature military static displays, on-board vehicle visits, living history displays, carnival rides, bounce house, petting zoo and so much more. Everyone will be able to enjoy their favorite fair foods as well. This event is free to attend with food and beverages available for purchase. For more information, call 253.967.6772. 

June 6

Teeny-Weeny Read-Along Book Club
6-7 p.m.

Children who are in kindergarten to 2nd grade are invited to come to the Book Patch Children's Library every first Thursday of the month. Everyone can listen and read along to fun stories being read. June 19

All-You-Can-Eat Pizza and Bowling
4:30-8:30 p.m.

Bring out the whole family to enjoy a fun-filled night of unlimited bowling and pizza. You can get two hours for $10 per person or all four hours for $13 per person. Shoe rental not included. June 21

Dream in STEAM
4-6 p.m.

Kids will love this bi-monthly event free at McChord Library that allows them to Dream in STEAM! They will learn how to design, build, problem solve, and learn by using science, technology, engineering, art and math. This event is for children ages 8 and older. Registration is required. June 28

Yoga Storytime
10:30-11:30 a.m.

This full-body experience event will help build early literacy skills as well as healthy bodies. Yoga Storytime will include various stories, stretching, breathing exercises and movement activities. July 5

STEAM Makerspace
6-7:30 p.m.
