For many veterans and active-duty service members, the dream of homeownership can become a reality through a unique and valuable financial tool — the VA loan. But, that special loan program becomes even more important when combined with the benefits of Homes for Heroes. In fact, military members, past and present can save money and enjoy a nice rebate if they know where to look.

Christopher Sayre with OriginPoint will lead active, reserve and retired military members through the various details over a free breakfast and Q&A Saturday, Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. at McNamara’s Pub and Eatery in DuPont. The RSVP page is here: https://swarner.lpages.co/originpoint-home-buyers-class-copy/.

I take pride in thoroughly educating my customers throughout the mortgage transaction, so they fully understand their options and feel comfortable with their chosen loan program,” Sayre said.

The Homes for Heroes initiative is a collaborative effort between local communities, nonprofits, and government organizations to honor and assist the heroes among us. The core mission of Homes for Heroes is to ease the burden these heroes face when it comes to finding a place to call home. The initiative aims to provide affordable housing options, financial assistance, and various support services tailored to the unique needs of each hero.

Sayre said by combining what the VA offers, and the benefits of Homes for Heroes, military home buyers reap the rewards of roughly $4,000-plus in “Hero Rewards”, no down payment, better interest rates and much more.

“In this high interest environment, you need all the help you can get,” Sayre said.

A VA loan is a mortgage option available to qualified veterans, active-duty service members, National Guard members, and certain members of the Reserves, as well as eligible spouses. The VA does not directly lend money to borrowers but guarantees a portion of the loan, reducing the risk for private lenders, which in turn allows these lenders to offer favorable terms to veterans.

Under the Homes for Heroes initiative, eligible individuals, including veterans, active-duty service members, National Guard and Reserve members, and retired military personnel, can benefit from substantial mortgage discounts. The discounts will be applied to closing costs, mortgage interest rates, and other related fees, allowing military families to save thousands of dollars during the home-buying process.

"We deeply appreciate the sacrifices made by our military personnel to protect our nation. This program is a way to express our gratitude and support for their dedication and service," said Sarah Thompson, spokesperson for the Homes for Heroes initiative. "We believe that providing mortgage discounts and easing the financial strain of homeownership is a meaningful way to give back to those who have sacrificed so much for our country."
