On Saturday, Feb 16, the Military Dream Big Fair will take place at the Capital Christian Center in Lacey. The event is produced by The Ranger, Northwest Airlifter and JBLM Living newspapers and sponsored by USAA. It's a great opportunity for military and family members to learn about employment and educational opportunities.

"This is more than a job or education fair, it's an invitation to dream," said Ken Swarner, Publisher, Northwest Military. Big employers such as Amazon.com, Starbucks, Google and AAFES, as well as mom-and-pop shops will be offering full-time, part-time and holiday employment opportunities. Representatives from local and national colleges and training programs are available to inform attendees about training opportunities for future careers. "We staged it on a weekend so our troops who can't get time off to attend this one," Swarner added.

The event offers the chance to dream about careers in beauty, construction, pilot training, direct sales, video gaming and more. For those interested in owning their own business, experts will be on hand to answer your questions, including inquiries about owning a franchise. Many people will be surprised to learn some franchises offer substantial military discounts to veterans. "There are great opportunities for military spouses to find part-time work or holiday work. Plus, we will have lots of representatives from direct sales companies like Oragami Owl, AVON and others," said Swarner. "The Exchange will be there for those looking for a job right here on base."

Transitioning from service leads to big changes that can be intimidating. Veterans Affairs specialists will be on hand to connect you with free programs, apprenticeships and navigating the GI Bill.  Those in the medical field can also learn about going from enlisted to a military officer.

Spouses aren't left out. There will be information on the MYCAA, which is a career advancement program for military spouses which provides grants of up to $4,000 to pay for training leading to a career (some restrictions apply).

All active-duty and Reserve troops and their families are invited to join us. The event is completely FREE to attend. You must RSVP to be entered for door prizes handed out throughout the day. Please RSVP here: rsvpbook.com/dreambig.
