For veterans seeking employment, the Bremerton-Kitsap Airporter, Inc. (kitsapairporter.com) will offer the opportunity at the Dream Big Career Fair July 20.

"I look for personable and outgoing individuals to work for us," wrote veteran Lauri Smith, the company's operation manager, in an email.

"The veterans and military retirees who work here are outstanding, and they know the people we serve expect ‘above and beyond' service."

She also said the company is family oriented, offers competitive wages, year-end bonuses and vacation pay.

The company's history is rooted in military service.

After two decades of service in the Navy, Richard Asche retired to the Pacific Northwest.

Realizing an opportunity to transport sailors to and from Seattle-Tacoma International (SeaTac) Airport, he began the company with a Volkswagen Van Oct. 10, 1979.

In June 1984, the shuttle service added Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the Madigan Army Medical Center and McChord Field to its route.

Since then, the company has transported almost four million people as it totals nearly 1.5 million miles every year.

"Currently, we use five vans for the JBLM pick-up locations and 21 buses for our Kitsap locations," continued Smith.

"In each case, at each stop, customer service is our number one priority."

Specific to the JBLM area, which Smith referred to as the "JBLM Airporter," there are nine daily runs between the base and SeaTac every two-and-a-half hours.

Current services include the following:

Kitsap-SeaTac Service

  • Providing service from nine convenient locations on the Kitsap Peninsula.
  • 21 scheduled daily trips to and from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
  • Maximum 21- to 29-passenger busses on every trip.
