If you are renting a home during the U.S. Open, and you need to keep the refrigerator stocked, you have come to the right place. Grocery shopping near Chamber's Bay is amazing. Sure, there are Safeway and Fred Meyer, but the specialty stores will keep your pre- and post-functions deliciously diverse and impressive.

Harbor Greens

Sandwiched between a Walgreens and AutoZone, Harbor Greens is a lovely, upscale shopping experience with an impressive wine, liquor and beer selection featuring many local, small batch distilleries and breweries including Heritage Distillery and 7 Seas Brewing.  A couple of pleasant surprises include a plethora of Harbor Greens branded pickled delights, jarred jams and dressings and canned fruits - all made in Gig Harbor - as well as an outdoor greenhouse featured a large assortment of potted trees and house plants.  The meat is trimmed like a Monet, too. Harbor Greens, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, 2620 Bridgeport Way W., University Place

Trader Joe's

What is it about Trader Joe's that we love? It's not a big store, and strangely it hosts a vast selection of items to choose from, but yet it doesn't seem to be overly crowded. It's almost magical. Maybe when someone rings that bell up front, that's the signal for the TJ gnomes to restock?  Grab some garlic and herb pizza dough, and make pizzas after the Open, or try TJ's take-out, such as the Thali Aloo Matar, Yellow Dal and Basamati Rice all in one box, two servings and ready to eat in less than three minutes. Avoid the Two Buck Chuck because it's no longer $2 and it's horrid, however, the special TJ Vintage beer made by Unibroue is worth giving a try. Good deals are to be found for sure, but the real treat here is their imagination, great selection and creative items, perfect for appetizers, in the frozen food section. Trader Joe's, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, 3800 Bridgeport Way W., University Place

Whole Foods

You read that right.  The place often fondly referred to as, whole paycheck, opened in University Place last month bringing the mother of all specialty grocery stores to the South Sound for the first time.  What is there to like - a beer counter, cheese counter, buffet of salads?  Yeah!  The place is as much a destination to browse as it is to stock the cabinets back home.  If you have to feed an army of house guests, and you don't care how much it costs, then you can't go wrong here finding a plethora of already prepared delicacies that will match any time of the day from breakfast to the late-night munchies.  Try the Guinness Cheddar Cheese! Whole Foods, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., 3515 Bridgeport Way W., University Place
