They're the equivalent to the outdoor answer man. They're Jacques Cousteau, Jim Whittaker and Jean Claude Killy all rolled into one.

Whether you're looking for a place to hike, swim, ski or go whitewater rafting, or whether you're looking for a place to dock your boat or ride your four-wheeler, then you want to talk with the people at Northwest Adventure Center. If it has anything to do with the outdoors, they know.

"A lot of times when they come here to JBLM from wherever, they don't think there's anything to do in Washington because it's gloomy and wet," said Amanda Parker, an operations lead at the Northwest Adventure Center. "So we want to provide a service to show them everything they can do in the outdoors."

Not only do they offer trips - there's overnight camp outs, one-day hikes and open water kayak trips - the Northwest Adventure Center also has outdoor gear, scuba diving adventures, a marina for your boat and ORV parks. They also have a hunting area and cabin rentals.

"Even civilians hunt on our land because it's so large," Parker said. "We just have to have them register. We do it in a safe way so we know who's out there and who's in which land."

The Northwest Adventure Center is like heaven for all outdoor adventure seekers. Ready for rent, they've got tents, camping trailers, motor boats, fishing equipment, life vests, water skis and kayaks. For anyone seeking an adventure in the snow, they have skies, snowboards and snowshoes for rent.

And it's not just the equipment that they can hook you up with. They can also provide the adventure. They provide trips for whitewater rafting, sea kayaking, a Skagit tulip bike tour and even a bungee jumping adventure. In May, they're going to have their first climb of Mount Rainier.

"They really have qualified guys and a great price for the camping trips," Parker said.

At their retail and rental store, you can get the gear you need for skiing, fishing and camping. For the hunter, they also have gun sales. They even offer adult scuba diving classes that teach the basic open water training needed for certification.

If you don't have a hunting and fishing license, don't worry about it. Northwest Adventure Center also sells hunting and fishing licenses.

For information about rentals or upcoming trips, call 253.967.7744 or go to their website at jblmmwr.com/nw_ad/ct.html.

And it doesn't end there. Not only do they put on outdoor adventures, they're also willing to help you put one on. If you already have your own group hungry for a rafting trip or a kayaking ride, just call them. They do customized trips.

You can register at the Northwest Adventure Center seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
