Watching golf with golfers

If you're expecting the typical sports bars and restaurants to make up my list of best places to view the U.S. Open, you would be mistaken. This article is for the viewer who wants to view the most exciting event to be hosted by the Northwest since, well, last December's NFC Championship game, among the educated hackers and duffers who grace our rich golfing community. For it is only then that you will experience the ebbs and flows of championship golf surrounded by others wondering aloud if they might be better than Tiger Woods. What could be better?

Smoke + Cedar - You want to hang with golfers in a swanky environment?  Smoke + Cedar is well above par (a good thing in dining) when it comes to superb food, attractive surroundings, and a fairway to glance upon ... and they make great drinks, too.  In fact, on Saturday and Sunday mornings, they have an all-you-can-drink Bloody Mary and Mimosa deal that might make it hard to golf later, but easy to sit back and enjoy the Open on the TV.  Smoke + Cedar - Serving as the 19th hole for Allenmore Golf Course. (2013 S. Cedar St., 253.627.7211)

Foley's on the Green - Meadow Park golf course is one of the busiest tracks in the South Sound. Given that, the restaurant and bar is sure to be full of excitement as the golfers make their way through the closing holes of the Open. The pub-style menu, coupled with the view of the humongous putting green, enhance the experience. (7108 Lakewood Dr. W., Lakewood, 253.473.3033)

Caddy Shack Bar & Grill - Eagles Pride Golf Course on Joint-Base Lewis-McChord counts many veterans and active-duty servicemembers as its clientele. What better way to watch our national golf championship than among our nation's heroes? The restaurant has a large open dining area with a view to the 18th hole. (Off I-5 exit 116, JBLM, 253.967.6522)

Oakhouse Restaurant & Bar - With window views to the 18th hole of the Oakbrook Golf Club and six televisions covering every angle of viewing, this is not your typical 19th hole. Check out the lunch specials that never disappoint. (8102 Zircon Dr. SW, Lakewood, 253.584.8888, ext. 34)

The Waterfront Ram Restaurant & Brewery - Okay, there isn't a golf course anywhere near here, but you know with the promise of warm, sunny afternoons and the largest television screen I've ever seen, the place will be hopping. Plus, the brewery will be tapping their Lone Tree Kolsch small batch seasonal beer, inspired by the lone fir tree perched off the15th green of Chambers Bay. (3001 Ruston Way, Tacoma, 253.756.7886)

Hawk's Prairie Casino - If you have Bubba Watson in your work pool and he has just sunk a forty-foot eagle putt on the 18th green Sunday afternoon, you might want to ride your luck with a run at the blackjack table. You won't have to miss a minute of the action, as the casino features televisions sure to be tuned into the big event.  They have excellent food as well. (8318 Quinault Dr. NE, Lacey, 360.528.8888)
