Summer is fast approaching, as you can surely tell from the Washingtonians that spontaneously combusted over the past weekend. With these hot months comes more excuses to go outside, necessitating an influx of festivals and events to take advantage of people heroically deciding to leave their homes. Tacoma Musical Playhouse will be holding their first annual Food Truck Festival this Saturday, giving Tacomans the opportunity to have their cake and eat it too, with events both outside the theater and inside

In the back parking lot of the Tacoma Musical Playhouse will be a selection of some of the South Sound's finest food trucks with a wide variety of options, including trucks from The Ram, Taqueria 3 Hermanos, Hamhock Jones, Hot Diggity Dog and Sausages, and P & J's Waffle Delight. Additionally, Chef Natalie Ruffner from Dolce Si and Chef Anne Curry of Gourmet Niche will be manning tents to serve up salads, gelato, and other things to help you cool down. Wine and beer will also be available, as well as music and a coloring contest for the kids.

If you feel like venturing inside the Tacoma Musical Playhouse, there will be two showings of The Wiz, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

TMP Food Truck Festival, Saturday, June 11, noon-8 p.m., Tacoma Musical Playhouse back parking lot, 7116 Sixth Ave., Tacoma, free, 253.565.6867, www.tmp.org
