While Laffy Taffy, Tootsie Rolls and Dumdums may appease the knee high set, a grown-up sweet tooth often calls for something a bit more sophisticated. Well fear not! The Tacoma area offers treats to satisfy even the most adult cravings.

Since 1918, the Johnson Candy Company has been providing sweet treats to the Hilltop neighborhood in Tacoma. Originally an ice cream store, by the 1920's Johnson Candy Company had switched its focus to making and selling quality, handcrafted delights including nut clusters, assorted caramels and ten different flavors of cream filled chocolates. They also feature mints in a rainbow of colors and a wide selection of sugar-free delicacies for diabetics.

A certified Kosher candy store, Emily's has been making quality chocolates for twenty-eight years. Emily's is the retail arm of AMES International, Inc., which manufactures and wholesales handcrafted teas, nuts and chocolates to specialty retailers throughout the region. The non-GMO verified treats at Emily's include chocolate covered nuts, caramels, dried fruits and espresso beans.

The message on their website says, "The OCD Candy Company is NOT a joke company and we do not make a joke product. Our goal is to make candy eating fun for everyone. A portion of each sale is donated to a foundation for children with Autism as many Autistic children have OCD tendencies. These funds help with research and family support." At OCD Candy Company you can contribute to a great cause while satisfying your grown-up cravings for gummies, gum drops and candy covered chocolates.

A unique candy store and performance venue, Trop's Chocolates has been keeping Gig Harbor residents supplied with specialty chocolates for thirty years. While Trop's offers all the things you'd expect to find in a first rate chocolate shop, such as handcrafted truffles and homemade fudge, they also feature specialty items you can't find anywhere else, like molded chocolate boxes and chocolate dipped brownies and graham crackers.

Of course, no list of grown-up confections in the South Sound would be complete without the granddaddy of them all, Tacoma's own Brown & Haley's. Their world famous Almond Roca can be found in most retail candy outlets nationwide. But Almond Roca is only the beginning. Brown & Haley's manufactures six different Rocas in addition to their Almond Roca, including Mocha Roca, Dark Roca, Dark Peppermint Roca, Cashew Roca and Macadamia Roca - even Sugar-Free Roca.
