Tis the season for outdoor shenanigans and restaurant openings. There is a plethora of happenings right here in our own backyard, and at times, ones you'll want to plan a trip for, because going on an adventure is always worth the journey. Here are a few things on my radar, currently.

Owners of the Zodiac Supper Club have opened another establishment with the moniker, Dusty's Hideaway. This new McKinley gem, unlike its saucier sister Zodiac, is family friendly! Currently, they're in the throughs of their soft open which means a limited menu and only eager diners who can hold some grace for the training process should consider checking it out. Hours right now are 2-11 p.m. Tiny humans are allowed until 9 p.m. 723 E. 34th St., Tacoma

If you're anything like me, you've daydreamed of filling the streets with a feast. Nothing so dramatic as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, but you get the idea. Enter the Grit City Gala, an urban street feast supporting the Tacoma Farmers' Markets, Aug. 15, from 6-9 p.m. Imagine a long table ... really long, set elegantly, and abundant with farm-fresh food crafted by some of the best local chefs. It's dreamy isn't it? And it's a feel-good festivity because proceeds benefit our farmers' market communities. Tickets will sell fast which is why I'm mentioning it now. Visit m.bpt.me/event/4222063 for full details.

Friday, July 19, marks another unique dining experience in the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium Summer VIP event and Long Table Dinner. Festivities are Zoobilee-styled and include a five-course feast prepared by local chefs surrounded by Point Defiance views, live music, dancing, cocktails to pair, and zoo staff and animals to mingle with. There will also be an exclusive live auction and raise the paddle fundraiser with funds benefiting PDZA. Must be 21 and over to attend. Summer cocktail attire recommended. Culinary flare will be provided by: The Cheesery, Table 47, Ambassador Wines of Washington, Lancer Hospitality, Hello Cupcake, Heritage Distilling Co., 7 Seas Brewing, Old Spaghetti Factory and more! Tickets are required and can be found at thezoosociety.ejoinme.org/summerviplongtable.

The Fort Nisqually Living History Museum is hosting another opportunity to gather with fellow history hounds over a libation. This one is for the adults with a Homespun Happy Hour on both Friday, June 28, and Friday, July 26, from 6-9 p.m. This fun, hands-on opportunity gives attendees a chance to try your hand at leatherwork, scrimshaw (that's a fun word isn't it?), tinsmithing, felting and more, all while enjoying a beverage and exploring the museum's historic buildings. Bonus, you get to take your creations home! Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Money raised from this event supports the educational mission of the Fort Nisqually Living History Museum.

Pre-purchase your ticket to the adventure at eventbrite.com/e/homespun-happy-hour-tickets-60555298528.
