PUTTING UP GREEN BEANS

The Tacoma Farmers Market brings in a plethora of nature's candy, artisan vendors and special foodie events including "Putting Up Green Beans" at the South Tacoma Market (STAR Center, 3873 S. 66th St.) at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17. This hands-on workshop will get you green bean ready before you know it.

SEAFOOD AND BEER FESTIVAL

The Hub at Gig Harbor (1208 26th Avenue Northwest) is bidding the summer season adieu with its End of Summer Seafood and Beer Festival from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. Festivities include dinner on the Tacoma Narrows Airport tarmac, live entertainment and a seafood buffet teeming with Dungeness crab, salmon, clams, prawns and more paired with brews. Tickets are $65 with proceeds benefitting the WSU Athletics. Athletic director Bill Moos and Former WSU quarterback Jason Gesser will be in attendance. Reservations required; call 253. 853.1585.

ROOT BEER CLASS

Bayview School of Cooking (516 W. Fourth Ave., Olympia) hosts Puyallup gem The Root Beer Store from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27 for a unique instruction experience: "Make Your Own Root Beer." This step-by-step instructional class not only includes how to make your own bubbly soda concoction but how to use it to make root beer pork slider, baked beans, root beer cupcakes, fudge and of course a classic root beer float.
