Announcer: It is difficult to believe that less than a year ago the South Sound was bulging at the seams with famous golfers and the fans that wanted to get a glimpse of them. In June 2015, Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place hosted the U.S. Open - an amazing logistical accomplishment, which shined a light on the Scottish-style course and its stunning views of the Puget Sound and islands that dot it.  Although the tournament is over, those views remain, and whether you golf or not, you can bask in the glory on the deck or in the dining room at Chambers Bay Grill.

Jake: Normally I wouldn't specifically go to a golf course for a meal, but in addition to a spectacular view, Chambers Bay offers a few reasons to hit the clubhouse.

Jason: Chambers Bay Grill is situated at the top of the course with sweeping views of the 950 acres that rise and fall across a steep landscape.  Beyond the links is a rocky beach, the Puget Sound water, the town of Steilacoom, various islands and the Olympic Mountains, all saluted on clear evenings with a killer sunset.  Sure, the food is great, but even if it wasn't, you'd want to grab a table on the deck and make an evening of it.

Jake: Though the Caesar salad and shredded beef nachos are a don't miss, don't skip the burger.  It's made with 100% Kobe beef, lots of it, topped with Tillamook white cheddar cheese, crispy bacon and served on a toasted brioche bun.  Juicy and filling, this is not your everyday burger.

Jason: I chose Chambers Bay Grill for Tacoma Restaurant Week and I was not disappointed.  They served up a ragu (today is the last night of TRW) over a handmade papperdelle worthy of a regular place on the menu.  Rich, finely crafted and meaty, the flavors blended superbly - it was neither starchy nor acidic - the perfect marriage of meat and pasta.

Jake:  Also on the menu is a chicken sandwich unique to only Chambers Bay Grill.  The Fay, as it is called, stacks a grilled chicken breast, with smoked bacon, melted Swiss cheese, and a significant pile of pastrami that really hits the spot.  Add some sweet potato fries for a true plate of sweet and salty.

Jason: Kudos to the service, too - they are attentive and knowledgeable of the menu and bar, but even though a small space, they don't hover or disappear for long stretches of time.  The space isn't formal - if you know golf clubhouses, it's better than most public courses but not refined like a country club.  You can feel comfortable wearing shorts on up to Northwest casual.

Jake: Sunday offers a reason to skip golf and head straight for the grill: Brunch.   In addition to the sandwiches you can get every day, you can also enjoy traditional favorites like biscuits and gravy, a croissant breakfast sandwich, and my favorite, the cinnamon French brioche toast served with sausage or bacon.  They are even offering a Mother's Day brunch, but hurry, space is limited.
