Announcer: You may think of brunch as an exclusive Sunday affair, but in downtown Tacoma, brunch is as much a Saturday get-together as a Sunday event, and with bottomless Mimosas and Bloody Marys, it makes any weekend morning the launch point for a great afternoon (if not early evening nap).  Pacific Grill serves a brunch worth noting with finely crafted food and good pours on the booze.

Jason: First note, this is not a buffet.  Second note, who cares, the menu is brimming with great selections and the food is backed by celebrity chef Gordon Naccarato ... set, point, match.

Jake: When the sign outside advertises a "boozy brunch", you know you are in for a unique brunch experience.  The bottomless Mimosas and Bloody Marys are not only tasty, but perfect for a social brunch with friends.  And if I want bottomless drinks, I'm happy to get them from the award-winning bar staff at Pacific Grill.

Jason: Pacific Grill was a pioneer in Tacoma - bringing four-star food to the area when few other chefs would give Tacoma the time of day.  Now a mainstay on Pacific Avenue, they entered the world of brunch earlier this year and by all indications, it's a hit.

Jake: We started off our meal with a shareable plate of tempura bacon.  This smokey and crispy bacon can only be described as clean bacon, as this is all flavor and crunch without any greasy aftermath.  Add with the side of maple and chili spice sauce for dipping, it is a pleasurable start to the experience.

Jason: The Bloody Mary was how I started.  Enough said.

Jake: Biscuits and gravy is a breakfast staple, but the challenge is that there are as many bad versions out there as good. Fortunately for the Pacific Grill, they've perfected their own savory version of sausage gravy that blankets the soft house-made biscuits with meaty flavor and minus the fatty gut-buster found elsewhere.  You finish feeling full but able to get on with the day.

Jason: Pacific Grill always serves outstanding smoked steelhead; I can never recommend that enough about this place.  Therefore, it is no surprise just how good the bagel with cold-smoked Columbia River lox tastes on this hand-made rye bagel with the fixings.  Looking for something much sweeter, tempt yourself with the Panettone French toast with orange-vanilla custard and maple crème anglaise - decadent!

Jake:  There are plenty of unique adaptions of brunch favorites to choose from, but the prime benedict screams Pacific Grill. Two toasted English muffins are offered up and topped with blow-torched prime rib, just a touch of horseradish, smoked onions and mushrooms, a pair of poached eggs, and finally a rich and creamy lemon hollandaise sauce.

Jason. I adored the Hot Mess ... maybe just for the name alone.  This concoction blends pastrami made in-house with hashed brown potatoes, braised cabbage, two eggs and Italian sausage gravy.  The flavors masterfully mesh.

Jake: Brunch is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday.
